Maryam Rajavi, who has traveled to Strasbourg at the invitation of several political groups from the Parliament of the Council of Europe, referring to the recent uprising said the people of Iran desire a fundamental change and called on Europe to stand by the Iranian people. She was speaking at an official meeting of the group of the European People's Party(EPP).
"Today, I have come to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to be the voice of those protesters who are presently in prison and under torture" she told MPs from the European People's Party, according to the website of Maryam Rajavi.
“I urge your group and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe to strongly condemn the killing of protesters in prisons and to urge all governments in Europe to take practical measures for the release of the prisoners.” She added.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi pointed to the recent uprising in Iran and said: “The uprising in Iran had several important messages. The first message is that the Iranian regime is very fragile and the Iranian society is in an explosive state. The other message is that the people of Iran desire a fundamental change. They reject both internal factions of the regime.”
President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran noted the words of Khamenei, who had confessed to the role of the Mojahedin in leading the uprising, adding: “We are a movement seeking freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.
Our coalition, the National Council of Resistance, is the democratic alternative to the clerical regime in Iran. The NCRI is made up of personalities and political groups of various tendencies.”
At the end of her speech, Mrs. Rajavi considered any change to the Iranian people and said: “We rely on the Iranian Resistance and uprising to bring about change in Iran. We reject any foreign intervention, but we urge other governments, particularly in Europe, to condition their relations with the Iranian regime on end to torture and executions.”
