Declaration by 5.2 million people of Iraq on threats of Iranian Regime Solution: Eviction of Iranian Regime from Iraq and Recognition of Status of People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran

The Congress of Iraqi People’s Solidarity convened in a major gathering in Ashraf city Saturday, June 17, 2006 to declare its solidarity with the people of Iran and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran. Representatives of 121 political parties and cultural and professional associations, institutes and societies and tens of thousands of people of Iraq were in attendance.

Chaired by Dr. Abdullah Al-Jabouri, former governor of Diyala Province, the congress initially paid tribute to 11 Iraqi workers of Ashraf martyred when their bus was bombed by agents of the Iranian regime on the 29th of May and went on to the historical declaration of the people signed by 5.2 million Iraqis.

The declaration sponsored by 121 political parties and social groups was signed in the period between February and June 2006. All signatories are over 18 years of age and their names and addresses are available and verified by tribe sheikhs, jurists, lawyers and local trusted dignitaries. 700,000 women, 14,000 lawyers and jurists, 19,000 medical doctors, 35,000 engineers, 320 clergies, 540 university professors, 2,000 tribe sheikhs and trusted local dignitaries and nearly 300 local officials are among those who signed the declaration. Representatives from different provinces presented the number of signatories and tens of thousands of signed pages to international and domestic correspondents reporting for media and the press.

Five million and 200,000 Iraqis declared in their statement:

– “Iran’s rulers want to dominate this part of the world and have turned Iraq into a hunting ground and the frontline of their war with the International Community. They would rather curb the waves of the original battle between democracy and dictatorship in this country before they reach Iran.” – “In this geopolitical situation and in this juncture of history, democracy in Iraq and democracy in Iran are interdependent, guaranteeing each other.”

– “The solution passes through eviction of the Iranian regime from Iraq and recognition of the status of the PMOI which is the counterbalance to the Iranian regime’s interventions. Similarly, their disarmament upset the strategic balance in this sensitive region of the world in favor of the Iranian regime.”

The signatories acknowledged the PMOI individuals’ right to asylum in Iraq, to own their properties and places and to have their two kidnapped members released. They declared, “The terrorist allegation and designation of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran – that with 120,000 martyrs is the prime victim of state-sponsored terrorism – is neither legitimate nor credible and it should not be regarded as a criterion for relations with this organization.”

At the end of the Congress, the leader of the Iranian Resistance in a video message from Paris appreciated the people of Iraq and congratulated them on the announcement of this declaration, calling it a victorious strategy in defense of democracy and against dictatorship and insecurity fomented by Tehran’s rulers.

Dozens of parliamentarians and prominent European personalities including European Parliament first vice-President Alejo Vidal Quadras, The Rt. Hon. The Lord Slynn of Hadley, former judge of the European Court of Justice and Lord of Appeal in Ordinary, and Lord Waddington, U.K. former Home Secretary, sent video messages to the congress, lending support to the declaration by 5,200,000 people of Iraq.

The chairman of the congress presented a copy of the declaration to Ms. Seddiqeh Hosseini, Secretary General of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran.
