On May 3, the South Carolina legislature passed House Resolution H-4422, expressing support for the people of Iran who have courageously protested for their basic rights and freedoms in recent years, particularly since September 2022. The resolution recognizes the historical context of the organized resistance against the Iranian dictatorship, led by women who have experienced endless suffering.
It highlights the deprivation of fundamental freedoms faced by the Iranian people and their rejection of monarchical dictatorship and religious tyranny. The resolution also emphasizes the oppression and mistreatment of ethnic and religious minorities by the Iranian regime, underscoring the need to establish a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear Republic in Iran. It also supports the ten-point plan of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the president-elect of NCRI, for the future of Iran, which guarantees all these rights.
Here is the full text of the resolution:
SUPPORTING THE PEOPLE OF IRAN WHO HAVE PROTESTED BRAVELY FOR THEIR FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS IN RECENT YEARS, AS OF SEPTEMBER 2022
Whereas the recent Iranian protests have their roots in more than four decades of organized resistance against the Iranian dictatorship, led by women who have experienced torture, sexual violence, and gender-based death; and
Whereas the Iranian people have been deprived of their basic freedoms, rejecting monarchical dictatorship and religious tyranny, as shown in their protest slogans; and
Whereas the Iranian regime has also arbitrarily and brutally oppressed ethnic and religious minorities, including Iranian Kurds, Baluchis, Arabs, Christians, Jews, Baha’is, Zoroastrians, and even Sunni Muslims, and deprived them of their basic human rights, and in many cases, executed them; and
Whereas the American people support the desire of the Iranian people for a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear Republic of Iran, as demonstrated by the overwhelming support of the US House of Representatives in the 118th Congress for H.Res. 100, which emphasized “support for opposition leader Mrs. Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan for the future of Iran, which calls for universal suffrage, free elections, and a market economy, and advocates gender, religious and ethnic equality, a foreign policy based on peaceful coexistence, and a non-nuclear Iran”; and
Whereas the House of Representatives stands in solidarity with the people of Iran and supports their aspirations for a democratic and secular republican government that respects human rights and the dignity of all individuals; now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That members of the South Carolina House of Representatives support the people of Iran who have courageously protested for their basic rights and freedoms in recent years, particularly since September 2022.
