Iran’s ongoing protests have entered their 232nd day, with people in numerous cities demanding their delayed wages, protesting low pensions, and seeking answers from government officials as the country’s economic situation worsens. The demonstrators hold Ali Khamenei and the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) responsible for their suffering. Protests have spread to at least 282 cities, with over 750 people killed and more than 30,000 arrested, according to the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
In Zahedan, the provincial capital of Sistan & Baluchestan, citizens have taken to the streets once again, chanting anti-regime slogans. Despite recent executions and arrests meant to instill fear and discourage protests, the Baluchi community continues to demonstrate. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), praised the bravery of the Zahedan protesters and the Baluchi community.
In Haft Tappeh, Khuzestan Province, workers and employees of the Pars Paper Company went on strike to protest low paychecks, lack of permanent contracts, long working hours, and no time off. Railway workers in Kerman Province also went on strike to protest delayed paychecks and unaddressed demands. Additionally, farmers in Lamerd, Fars Province, rallied outside the governor’s office to protest the government’s wheat pricing policies and officials’ refusal to purchase from them.
The protests began after the death of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini, a 22-year-old woman who was brutally beaten by morality police and died of her wounds in a Tehran hospital. Her death sparked protests that have spread across Iran, reigniting the people’s desire to overthrow the regime.
