A session was held in Paris on June 11th to declare solidarity with the Syrian people and revolution, with the presence of Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian opposition National Council of Resistance of Iran. In this gathering Tahar Boumedra, former U.N. human rights chief in Iraq and director of the Camp Ashraf dossier in the U.N., delivered a speech regarding the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MeK) and Ashraf residents:

“The truth is, I have heard much about the PMOI’s revolution, and it has been an honor to have been in charge of the Ashraf residents’ dossier in the U.N. I have witnessed how many of them have struggled to prove themselves on the field to turn words into actions; and they were truly symbols and set precedents for the Iraqis,” he said.

“If I had five staff members similar to PMOI members, I would have been able to turn Iraq into heaven on earth; and this shows the scope of the PMOI’s faith in Ashraf, and then Liberty. I say this from a viewpoint that practically the responsibility that they execute is not a simple task,” the former UNAMI envoy added.

“Many of you spoke about the absolute rule of the mullahs in Iran, known as the velayat-e faqih, and I want to add this that the idea of the mullahs’ establishment was born in the Iranian regime’s own constitution. Meddling in the affairs of neighboring countries in this text is stated as a duty of the Iranian government. The duty specified in the constitution for the Iranian government is that the mullahs’ establishment must be expanded across the globe. This is one of the most important issues that the region is facing, and the PMOI have risen to this challenge. I am saying this as an individual who has been a witness on the ground, seeing how they have endured pain and suffering, sacrificing, and setting each other aside to be the first to make this sacrifice. I had the opportunity, at the times that I was in Ashraf, to see in their process of leaving Iraq how the young PMOI members preferred to allow older and ill residents have the first chance to leave, and the young would rise to challenge the mullahs’ and their establishment.

“My brothers, I believe that we can use the experience of the PMOI in Iraq not just in Iraq, but also in Syria, Yemen and other countries that are facing the force and aggressive natures of dictatorships and the mullahs’ regime.

“I don’t want to speak too long and I will finalize my remarks by saying that the PMOI in Iraq were able to bring the U.N. on their side and align the American and many European embassies with their objectives, to seek the right to protection and the right to resistance.

“Hail to them, hail to my friends in Liberty. Their situation needs support and back-up and various types of assisting measures from all revolutionaries in Syria, Iraq and all other Arabic countries.”
