ISJ: So-called family members paved path for July 4th rocket attack against Camp Liberty residents

Iran spy agency website “Iran-Interlink” immediately covers demonizing campaign against PMOI

The International Committee “In Search of Justice” revealed the July 4^th rocket attack against Camp Liberty in Iraq, home to a community of Iranian dissidents, was carried out based on intelligence gathered by by Iranian regime agents stationed near the camp, and placed at the disposal of the Iranian regime’s terrorist Quds Force. These agents were transferred to the vicinity of Liberty by the Iraqi government committee controlling the camp, supervised by Iraqi National Security Advisor Falih Fayyad. The measures carried out by these agents outside Camp Liberty were covered in a matter of minutes by two professional Iranian Ministry of Intelligence agents named Massoud Khodabandeh and his wife, Ann Singleton, who are stationed in the United Kingdom. News reports of these events were posted on the “Iran-Interlink” and other VEVAK / MOIS websites.

Coinciding with a United Nations Security Council session on Iraq held Friday, July 15^th, the International Community “In Search of Justice” issued a letter to the Security Council President and Member States raising issues about members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MeK) stationed in Camp Liberty and called for measures in this regard.

The letters reiterates that from 2009 to this day after the residents’ security was transferred from U.S. forces to the Iraqi government PMOI members have been the targets of 8 ruthless attacks at the behest of the Iranian regime. This has led to 141 deaths amongst the residents. Moreover, they are suffering from a cruel siege that has resulted in 27 residents suffering to death.

Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras, former European Parliament vice president and current ISJ President writes: “The most recent attack on Liberty on July 4, 2016 with 50 rockets led to the injury of 50 residents… Fired missiles were 240 mm missiles known as Falagh-1 and were built by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ industries. Militants based in areas near the airport have facilitated transfer of the trailer carrying the missiles to its launching location and its passing through various checkpoints.”

“The ground for the attack was prepared by sending a few dozen intelligence officers in May under the guise of families of the residents of Camp Liberty. They climbed the walls and took pictures and videos from inside the camp and provided the regime with the necessary information for the attack. They beat some residents and to incite and create conflict they injured one resident by cutter. These acts are fully done with the help of few Iraqi officers who have been in charge of Camp Ashraf and then Camp Liberty since Maliki’s prime minister era and have been complicit in 8 massacres against the residents… The ground for the attack was prepared by sending a few dozen intelligence officers in May under the guise of families of the residents of Camp Liberty. While no one except security agents can get close to Liberty perimeter, these mercenaries can roam freely and under the eyes of Iraqi security forces engage in shouting slogans and obscenities against residents and persecuting them. Iraq has repeatedly denied the demand of delegations from the European Parliament, the US Congress, British Parliament, and a number of prominent international figures and even Iraqi parliamentarians to visit Ashraf and Liberty. In addition, during the past years thousands of real family members have not been allowed to go to Iraq and visit their loved ones in Liberty. For instance, 400 people of these families who live in Europe and the US, in a letter to the Secretary General and other relevant international organizations in last November demanded to obtain visas to visit their children, which was futile, although most of them were European and American citizens.”

For these missions the Iranian regime uses various relatives of Liberty residents, who are also members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and terrorist Quds Force. For example, a Liberty resident by the name of Mohammad Reza Iranpour has recently sent a letter to the United Nations Secretary-General – published in Farsi-language websites opposing the Iranian regime – explaining how his sister and her husband are actively present outside of Camp Liberty and involved in gathering information, taking pictures of the camp and insulting the residents. He wrote that a number of his family members have succumbed to cooperating with the mullahs’ intelligence. Col. Hassan Taffah of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, being the husband of his older sister, is amongst these individuals and known as the main ringleader of this conspiracy. In addition to the crimes he committed during the Iran-Iraq War back in the 1980s, this individual is known to attack youths in his neighborhood because of their clothing or hairstyle, Iranpour explains, adding he is a hated figure amongst their family members. His sister, Mah Monir Iranpour, aka Amene at home, is the VEVAK / MOIS representative at the scene, he adds. She is involved in rallying other Liberty residents’ relatives and abusing their family emotions against us, Iranpour continued. She joined the IRGC Bassij at a young age and then married this colonel to only increase her involvement with this organ, he adds.

According to reports shared by Liberty residents with Iran Probe, the residents – including Mohammad Reza Iranpour – have time and again shared their concerns with UNAMI and UNHCR representatives that monitor Camp Liberty about the presence of these agents under the pretext of family members. However, to this day no practical measures have been taken by the Iraqi government to prevent espionage and paving the path of lethal attacks against the residents by these agents.
