Sarfaraz Rahimi is a low-level agent of the Ministry of Intelligence of the Iranian regime, who works in Albania under the title of “former member of the Mojahedin”. When Albania expelled the diplomats of the Iranian regime first due to terrorist activities and then due to a cyber attack, the Iranian regime is trying to continue its destructive activities in this country under the cover organizations such as “ASILA” and “Nejat Society”. According to the pieces posted social media, Sarfaraz Rahimi, who used to work as a member of ASILA, is now strongly involved in espionage activities in connection with the Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS) in Tehran in connection with the Nejat cover society.
Background
After moving from Iraq to Albania in 2017, Sarfaraz Rahimi was expelled from the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI-MEK) to pursue his personal life. Since then, he has been in contact with MOIS agents in Albania, such as Gholamreza Shekari, and received money from the MOIS in exchange for lying and participating in psychological warfare against the MEK. Sarfaraz Rahimi, according to his own handwriting which has been published on Persian language websites, first contacted the Iranian regime embassy in Albania to transfer his wife from Iran to Albania or to return to Iran, but the Iranian embassy did not take any action to transfer his wife and made his transfer to Iran conditional on cooperation with the embassy against the MEK in Albania. Activities in ASILA and Nejat spy networks in Albania
Sarfaraz Rahimi first continued his activities against the MEK and Albanian national interests in a spy network called ASILA in the service of the MOIS. On July 12, 2022, the Special Structure for Combating Corruption and Organized Crimes (SPAK) issued an order for the temporary arrest and inspection of all the locations of the MOIS agents in Albania who were organized in the ASILA network. The places of eleven people, including Sarfaraz Rahimi, were searched by the police, their communication devices were seized and arrested. The court’s ruling on Rahimi and his collaborators states, “There are reasonable doubts that they have carried out concrete measures against the MEK on behalf of the terrorist organization Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and are currently carrying out actions. They are also financed by the IRGC and Quds force.. These activities are currently supporting and providing information about the organization in Albania.”
On July 15, 2022, the Albanian Top Channel TV published a report about the arrest of regime agents. “SPAK banned the association, which was established in Albania in the fall of 2021, since it is believed that its espionage activities are a cover for activities that are apparently aimed at uniting Iranians in the capital of Albania or for cultural exchange between the two countries, but it deals with espionage activities. The decision to prevent any activity of this association was made following the order of the special prosecutor’s office, which is investigating the commission of terrorist acts in this organization, the purpose of which is to harm the MEK based in Manza. Therefore, the investigative measures against the association ‘Supporting Iranians living in Albania’ ]ASILA[ . This investigation joins the detailed investigation that began in Manza 3 years ago following suspicions about an Iranian cell that planned attacks during Nowruz holidays and then escalated them.”
In the following, 6 members of ASILA were arrested on 10 November 2022 and kept in Karrec closed camp for a year, and some of them, including Hasan Heyrani, who was registered as the secretary of ASILA, were deported from Albania as non grata.
After the ASILA spy network failed with the arrests and expulsion of its main person in Albania, the MOIS has formed its activities in Albania under the name of the Albanian Nejat Society with the extensive activities of Sarfaraz Rahimi and his partner Erisa Idrizi. Nejat Society in Iran is one of the branches of the MOIS.
